The Road To Recovery - The Story of Trixie the Rat Terrier
I was away volunteering my help with my veterinarian's adoption day program, and my sister was left in charge of watching my kids and dogs. While I was away Trixie, my one-and-a-half year old Rat Terrier, got hurt. My sister Nichole didn't know what had happen she had only stepped out of the room for a minute. When my daughter had seen that Trixie couldn't walk so she went to get Nichole. Nichole couldn't get her to walk, and all Trixie could do was whine.
Nichole called a veterinarian out of the phone book; they told her to bring Trixie in and they would see what they could do. Well the vet said he didn't know what he could do. He decided to keep her and try a medicine called Rimadyl and Pedaizone for a couple of days and wait to see if she would improve. I called his office as soon as I found out she was hurt. He told me that she had no feeling in her toes and his guess was that she had a spinal injury. That was on the first day.
The second day he said she had some feeling, and that I could pick her up on the following day and give her some TLC at home. When I picked her up he said that she had more feeling but he thought she would need to have spinal surgery or be put to sleep. I took her home and did as the Dr. said.
Trixie was not improving with the medication prescribed by the veterinarian, so I called her vet which is Shawnee Animal Clinic. They made her an appointment right away. First her doctor took a look at her and said that she thought that Trixie's vertebrae was out of alignment and was causing pressure on her spine. To be sure she said she wanted an x-ray done on her.
When she came back I was so relieved that I cried. She was right and she told me Trixie would be fine. All that she needed was for the vertebrae to be put back in place and some more medicine to help her recover. Trixie had recovered in just two weeks after she got the right treatment.
