| Say A Prayer For Harold |
|
 We have a 4 1/2 year old yellow lab that suddenly became ill with a high fever ranging from 103-105.5 degrees. He became lethargic so we took him to the local vet clinic. He had x-rays, and lab studies which were all pretty non-conclusive. Although the diagnosis at the time was pneumonia. He was started on amoxicillin injections which we delivered to him at home. Harold (our dog) will not usually eat at a strange place, and so we thought we could care for him better at home. Our local vets are not open 24 hours a day, and are not in the building to watch over our friend. He did not get better with the medication so we took back to another vet on an emergency basis now he was coughing, and acting as though he needed to vomit, and continuing to run a high fever. He was placed in the hospital for IV fluids, and antibiotics. These antibiotics were changed every 2-3 days because he was not responding to the medications. We brought him home after a week of no improvement in the hospital. He continued to get worse, and was later diagnosed with a fungal lung infection called Blastomycosis. This is devastating news for us. We have to put him to sleep on 2/20/01 due to the cost and suffering of our friend, just 1 month shy of his 5th birthday. He will always be in our hearts. Please say a prayer for Harold.
