External Heart Massage
How to give an External Heart Massage
  1. Place pet on it's right side.
  2. Place your dominant hand on the 8th rib (counting up from the back edge of the rib cage) with the palm side of your hand down, right behind the armpit.
  3. Place the palm of your other hand beneath your pets chest, opposite the first hand.
  4. Apply rapid pumping motion between your two hands, compressing the heart. Pump about 120 times per minute.
  5. Artificial respiration should also be given if there is know one to help you. Stop every six heart massages and breathe one or two deep breathes into your pet.
  6. If heartbeat is not restored within 20 to 30 minutes, pet will probably not recover. If your pet does recover its heartbeat, go to the veterinarian immediately.
