Choking
Signs
  • Gagging, salivating, extends neck.
  • Pawing at the mouth.
  • Crying in pain.
Immediate action to take
  1. Open mouth, gently push on cheeks to keep mouth open.
  2. If you see a foreign object, piece of wood, fishbone, chicken bone, or plastic, remove the object with tweezers or your fingers.
    DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE PANTY HOSE, ROPE, STRING, OR ANY SIMILAR OBJECT.  THESE OBJECTS MAY BE CAUGHT IN THE INTESTINES OR STOMACH.  CALL YOUR VETERINARIAN IMMEDIATELY!
  3. If the object is not visible give the pet a small amount of water or pet food to help the pet swallow.
  4. If object is not visible, and your pet cannot swallow, go to the veterinarian immediately!
  5. If your pet is not breathing use the Heimlich Maneuver.
